PRODUCTION
SOUTH AFRICA - 2027
Alleen is currently in pre-production, with principal photography planned to begin in South Africa in 2027
CURRENT STATUS
NOW IN PRE-PRODUCTION
Alleen is currently in pre-production ahead of principal photography in South Africa in 2027.
Following an August 2026 location recce and test shoot, the film’s primary location has been secured and preparations are underway for the next stage of production. Work is continuing across financing, production design, casting and crew, with plans for the farmhouse set now being developed ahead of construction.
The coming months will focus on bringing those pieces together as the project moves from development toward production.
THE LOCATION
EZELSJACHT - WESTERN CAPE
Located near De Doorns in the Western Cape, Ezeljacht will serve as the primary filming location for Alleen. Its open veld, surrounding mountains and relative isolation provide the landscape needed for the story, while the property itself gives the production the space to construct and dress Willemien and Johan’s homestead specifically for the film. Much of Alleen will be photographed here, allowing the farmhouse and the land surrounding it to function as a single, continuous world throughout the story.

BUILDING THE FARM
THE FARMHOUSE
At the center of Alleen is the farmhouse, the place where much of Willemien’s life, and the film itself unfolds. Rather than relying on an existing period location, the production plans to build and dress the homestead at Ezeljacht specifically for the story. Its layout, materials and interiors will be designed around the practical realities of a rural home in 1901, while also allowing the house to change with Willemien as the film progresses.
