Darion D'Anjou USA

"Though conceived as a glimpse into a much larger story, the short carries the weight of its broader context while standing on its own as an emotive narrative, anchored by a convincing performance—particularly from the protagonist."

Scott Hillier, AU

"This was a captivating short. On so many levels, it was excelling. I feel so much that this should be developed into a longer short or film. There is something so incredible about how a short piece of cinema can captivate, impact you, and make you feel deeply for the characters. A special mention to the lead actress, a really wonderful performance from this actor."

Natasha Mayet, RSA

"Excellent acting from the leads. I loved the use of the close ups, and also the pacing, the silences. Beautiful directing, can tell the director understands the actor's process. The film leaves an impact and is a great example of why human storytelling is always going to be needed."

Her War grew from a desire to explore a fleeting, human moment amid the backdrop of conflict. I wanted to focus on the quiet intensity of a single encounter, where emotion and tension exist in gestures, glances, and the spaces between words.

The film’s visual language was central to this approach: natural light, authentic locations, and period accurate detail create a world that feels tangible, letting the audience inhabit it without distraction. Dialogue is minimal, allowing the story to unfold through observation rather than explanation.

As a proof of concept, Her War is a small glimpse into a larger story, demonstrating the tone, atmosphere, and emotional depth I hope to expand on in a full-length project. At its core, it is simply about bearing witness to the subtle, human truths that persist even in the midst of tragedy and turmoil.
